Thermal Analysis by TGA and DSC

Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) monitors the change in weight of a substance as a function of temperature or time as the sample is subjected to a controlled temperature program. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) measures the rate and degree of heat a compound absorbs as a function of temperature and time. NAT offers a wide range of thermal analysis that include TGA-FT-IR, TGA, DSC, and mDSC.

We can determine with these methods:

Particle Size Analysis

NAT provides particle-size analysis services using the laser diffraction method. We can determine the particle size of suspensions or solid particles from 5 nm to 900 microns.

The diffraction spectrum that is obtained when a laser beam passes through a suspension of solid particles in a liquid is dependent on the dimensions of the particles and the distribution of their sizes. For example, the dimensional characteristics of the fillers used in plastic materials have a great influence on both the properties of a final compound, and in the production process and quality control.

Microscopy Studies

NAT has the ability to evaluate material properties using microscopy. This technique permits study of the compound's morphology as well as providing in-depth insight into the morphology and features of materials.

Recently NAT performed work for a major manufacturer of temperature control packaging used in pharmaceutical transportation and storage. In this study, microscopy revealed defects in their plastic films and helped them identify why failures were occurring in their products.
